Binance founder Changpeng Zhao has transferred approximately $965,000 in tokens to Giggle Academy and announced he will stop using a closely watched public wallet. The move follows complaints that unsolicited meme coins had cluttered the address and fueled ongoing speculation.
The donation supports Zhao’s education-focused project.
The Drivers of This Activity
On-chain data from 16 August shows Zhao sent about 1,440 BNB, valued near $872,000 at the time, along with roughly 182,620 币安人生 (Binance Life) tokens worth around $93,000 to Giggle Academy’s wallet. The combined transfer totals approximately $965,000.
Zhao had previously stated he would donate the remaining BNB and related tokens from the address and then abandon it. He explained that the public wallet, which he had used while testing Trust Wallet, had become filled with unwanted meme coins sent by others. Earlier cleanup attempts, including burns, only led to further speculation. He described the retired address as an effective burn address going forward, though it is not a protocol-level unspendable address.
Giggle Academy, the recipient, is an education initiative founded by Zhao that provides free learning content and programs aimed at children worldwide.
Impact and Broader Context
The transfer fulfills Zhao’s stated intention to redirect assets from the cluttered wallet toward a charitable education cause while removing a source of community over-interpretation of his on-chain activity. By publicly retiring the address, he aims to reduce noise around routine or residual transactions.
The donation adds to Zhao’s visible support for Giggle Academy since stepping back from day-to-day Binance leadership. On-chain watchers and the broader community will likely treat future activity from the old address as unrelated to him.
Further updates from Giggle Academy on how the funds are used, along with any additional comments from Zhao, will provide more context on the project’s progress.
