A long-time Shiba Inu community member has confirmed that Shibarium is still actively burning SHIB tokens despite relatively quiet network activity. The comment highlights the ongoing role of the layer-2 chain’s automated burn mechanism.

The update comes as broader SHIB burn rates have shown sharp short-term increases.

The Drivers of This Activity

Shiba Inu community veteran Mazrael responded on X to questions about BONE’s relevance and Shibarium’s status. He stated that BONE remains the gas token for Shibarium and continues to power ShibTorch, the automated portal that converts base transaction fees collected in BONE into SHIB for permanent removal from circulation.

Mazrael noted that a few hundred million SHIB had been burned through ShibTorch over the preceding couple of weeks. He added that the system does not need high visibility or heavy traffic to keep functioning.

Separate data from burn trackers showed a sharp rise in overall SHIB burns in the past 24 hours, with more than 100 million tokens removed in a single day, though much of that activity occurs through community and other channels beyond Shibarium alone.

Impact and Broader Context

The remarks reinforce that Shibarium’s fee-to-burn design remains operational even when daily transaction counts stay modest. Consistent, low-level burns contribute to the long-term effort to reduce SHIB’s circulating supply, though the absolute numbers remain small relative to the total tokens outstanding.

Community attention continues to focus on whether network activity can grow enough to make the automated burns more significant. The veteran’s comments suggest the underlying mechanism is still working as intended.

Observers will monitor ShibTorch burn totals, overall network usage and any further developer or community updates for clearer signs of momentum.
