Moscow, July 5, 2025 – Rostec, Russia’s state-owned defense and technology powerhouse, is set to launch its innovative ruble-backed stablecoin, RUBx, and a cutting-edge payment ecosystem, RT-Pay, by late 2025. This strategic move, built on the high-performance Tron blockchain, aims to revolutionize digital transactions in Russia and beyond. The RUBx stablecoin, pegged 1:1 to the Russian ruble, ensures stability through legally backed ruble obligations, offering a secure alternative to traditional financial systems.
The RT-Pay platform will integrate with Russia’s banking infrastructure, enabling seamless, compliant, and low-cost transactions for businesses, individuals, and cross-border trade. Supporting smart contracts and interoperability with external wallets, RT-Pay adheres to stringent Russian regulations, including anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) standards. Rostec’s Deputy General Director, Alexander Nazarov, highlighted that RUBx’s open-source code, audited by CertiK, ensures transparency and security, with its repository available on GitHub.
This initiative aligns with Russia’s push for financial sovereignty amid global sanctions, reducing dependence on Western systems like SWIFT. By leveraging Tron’s scalable and cost-efficient blockchain, RUBx and RT-Pay aim to streamline payments in high-friction sectors, such as trade and logistics, while fostering broader adoption of digital assets. The project complements Russia’s ongoing digital ruble trials and positions Rostec as a leader in state-backed blockchain innovation.
As global stablecoin adoption grows, with players like Tether and Circle dominating the market, Rostec’s entry signals Russia’s ambition to compete in the $150 billion stablecoin sector. The phased rollout of RUBx and RT-Pay, starting with pilot programs in Q4 2025, promises to reshape Russia’s financial landscape, boosting efficiency and resilience in digital payments.
