Brazilian authorities have apprehended the individual responsible for the recent data breach that compromised the personal information of millions of people, including their Social Security numbers. The hacker, who was linked to the sale of stolen data on the dark web, was arrested as part of “Operation Data Breach.”

The leaked data, which included over 2.9 billion records, was first discovered in August and contained sensitive information such as names, addresses, and phone numbers.

Among the compromised data were approximately 272 million unique Social Security numbers, making this one of the largest data breaches in history.

The incident has sparked widespread concern and legal action against the companies involved, National Public Data and Jerico Pictures, which have filed for bankruptcy in the face of numerous lawsuits.

As investigations continue, authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage caused by the breach and to prevent future similar incidents.
