A London man has denied operating an unregistered cryptocurrency ATM in Kent, England. Habibur Rahman, of East Ham, was arrested in April 2023 after police discovered the machine in a Chatham shop.
Rahman was charged with running the ATM without a license from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). He also faces allegations of laundering £300,000 in cash by converting it into cryptocurrency.
The 37-year-old appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to both charges. His case has been transferred to Maidstone Crown Court for a hearing on November 7.
Crypto ATMs are machines that allow people to buy and sell cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, using cash. They are illegal in the UK unless they are registered with the FCA.
