In a recent data breach, Fidelity Investments, a leading global asset manager, revealed that the personal information of over 77,000 customers was compromised. The breach occurred between August 17 and 19, 2024, when an unauthorized third party gained access to two customer accounts.
The stolen data included sensitive information such as full names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and other personal details. While Fidelity has not detected any misuse of the stolen data, they are taking proactive measures to protect their customers.
As a precaution, affected customers are being offered free credit monitoring and identity restoration services for two years. Fidelity has also initiated a thorough investigation into the breach with the assistance of external security experts.
The company emphasized that the breach did not involve access to customer accounts and affected a small subset of customers.
