The Federal High Court in Abuja has extended a freezing order on 818 bank accounts suspected of being involved in a N10 billion cyber-attack on Hope Payment Service Bank.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) requested the extension, citing ongoing investigations into the alleged fraud, criminal diversion, conversion of funds, conspiracy, and stealing.
The court granted the IGP’s request for an additional 30-day freezing order, allowing the police to continue their investigation and potentially prosecute those involved. The IGP’s legal team is also advised to remove bank accounts with insignificant amounts from the investigation.
Hope Payment Service Bank successfully thwarted the cyber-attack, preventing the loss of billions of Naira. The bank’s prompt response and the court’s actions demonstrate the importance of addressing cybercrime and protecting the financial system.
