Binance CEO Richard Teng has expressed relief following the release of Tigran Gambaryan, the exchange’s head of financial crime compliance, from Nigerian prison.

Gambaryan had been detained since February after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused Binance of money laundering and currency manipulation.

The EFCC dropped the charges against Gambaryan on Wednesday, citing undisclosed “critical international and diplomatic reasons.”

In a statement, Teng praised Gambaryan’s resilience during his eight-month ordeal and thanked those who worked to secure his release. He emphasized the importance of Gambaryan’s health and well-being.

Gambaryan’s wife, Yuki, also expressed relief and gratitude, particularly to the US government for its efforts. She acknowledged the challenges ahead in her husband’s recovery and thanked supporters for their hope and strength.

Gambaryan was released from Kuje prison on Wednesday night.
