Words on the street is that having a STRIPES account is mandatory to be eligible for Elon’s ad revenue sharing or monetisation. This is NOT true. But because of this, many users in Nigeria could not partake in Elon Money today. PAIN

While researching, I watched some stressful YouTube videos on how to create a STRIPES ACCOUNT. The tortuous process involved creating a virtual business name in the US, obtaining a virtual US address, paying for a virtual US phone number, a US Bank account number and all kinds of yahoo-yahoo- like stuffs. I ran!

Anyway, here are the steps to sign up for Elon Musk’s monetisation.

  1. Sign up for Twitter Blue to get your account verified. You could use VPN on your TwitterX mobile app to bypass the restrictions that say it is not “available” in Nigeria, or sign into Twitter using your laptop browser.
  2. Signing up for Twitter Blue is fairly straightforward. Clicking on the Twitter Blue will take you to the payment page, where you select whether to pay for your subscription, monthly or annually.
  3. I paid with my Nigerian Naira debit bank card.

Now to the main deal: STRIPES ACCOUNT.

  1. After your #TwitterX account is verified, just log into your Twitter account from a laptop (NOT YOUR PHONE). Top left, scroll to MONETISATION and if you’re qualified, you’ll see two options:

i) Subscription
ii) Ad Revenue Sharing

For today, we are interested in ‘ii.’
Click on it, and two options would appear:

a) Create a STRIPES account
b) Link an existing STRIPES account.

  1. Select the FIRST option and it takes you to the page below. Input your email address and Nigerian phone number and continue.
  2. Next, put in your contact address, upload your identity card (International Passport, or Driver’s License or National ID Card) and just follow the prompts till you get to the second frame.
  3. This is where you input your Nigerian bank details but you need your CORRECT BANK SWIFT CODE. If you’re not sure of your bank swift code, call your bank or Google it. Add your Nigerian bank account number and voila!

You’re good to go!

The last page shows what it looks like at the end.

BONUS: you can also verify your STRIPES account and set up two-factor authentication for additional security.

Let me know if this was helpful.
